What is so Perfect about the Past Perfect Tense, Present Perfect Tense, Future Perfect Tense in English Grammar?

You might have wondered what Perfect really means when it comes to the types of tenses. We are going to demystify that in this article.

So Perfect has come from the Latin verb - Perficio, Per ficere, Perfeci, Perfectus which means - completed i.e. the action has been completed, accomplished, to complete or finished. The Action is complete in regards to present.

Perfect is linked to the trio tenses - Past, Present and Future.

Past Perfect Tense - Had + past participle verb
I had jumped.

Present Perfect Tense -
I have jumped.

Future Perfect Tense - will have + past participle verb.
I will have parachuted.

If action has already concluded - why it is perfect?

Combines present grammatical tense.
Perfect grammatical aspect (done)
Past perfect - past tense + you had + done

Future perfect - future tense - will have + done

Present Perfect tell us few things -
That event is finished
Exact time of action is unknown/ not important
Experience of doing had some effect in the present.
